Protein Bars to Build Muscle

Protein bars are an excellent low carbohydrate, low caloric snack for in between meals for anybody but especially if you are trying to lose a few pounds of body fat.

With today's hectic lifestyles, many of us don't have the time to sit down every three hours to eat a proper meal. This is where the protein bars come very handy. You can have some bars stored in your car or in your gym bag as a back up snack in case you get stuck in traffic or if you are forced to skip a meal for any other reason. It's better to eat a protein bar then not to eat at all if your day gets away from you.

By not skipping a meal, you ensure a healthy well working metabolism and a balanced blood sugar level. Not eating when you normally get hungry, will make your blood sugar levels drop too low and you will most likely feel dizzy, weak and fatigue. Eating a protein bar in a situation like this will carry you over to the next meal, satisfy your hunger and give you a boost of energy for at least two hours. When choosing what protein bar is the best bar for you, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind.

If you are a woman, you definitely do not want any of the high carbohydrates high calories weight gainer bars that are offered in the health food stores.

You want to know how many grams of protein the bar has and remember to always check how many grams of carbohydrates it has as well as how high the total caloric intake is. The protein content should be at least 10 grams to be considered a good source of protein. Another important ingredient to check is the sugar content in the protein bar, especially for women or anybody else who is on a low carbohydrate diet. Sugar alcohol and glycerin are sometimes used in the bars and is not included in the total carbohydrates so make sure you take a close look at the ingredients. Double check what type of sugar is being used as sweetener. Some of the bars on the market are just a few grams of sugar away from the same ingredients as a Snicker's bar so pay close attention to the sugar amounts they pack into these so called nutrition bars.
