There are several different types of protein. The name of the protein reflects what source of protein it comes from.
Whey protein is a dairy protein and is very high in nutritional value. To better understand where whey protein comes from we will go back to when milk becomes cheese. Milk contains two proteins, casein and whey protein. When cheese is produced the whey (liquid) separates from the casein or what we know as the "curd". Then the whey proteins are separated from the whey liquid and purified into different concentrations of whey protein. Whey protein is made up of different smaller protein components. Whey protein is considered a complete protein containing all the essential amino acids that our body needs every day as well as being a great source of branched chain amino acids. The branched chain amino acids are needed directly after your workout to help your body and muscles recover more beneficially.
The different whey proteins will depend on what source of milk was used, what cheese is being made and what method of separation that is being used in the process. Whet protein has been proven to be successful when used to promote fat loss by increasing lean muscle mass.
Whey protein isolate is the purest and highest in protein of all the different whey proteins and contains about 90-95% protein. Whey protein isolate is also very low in lactose since it's so pure, usually around 1% only.
