Fitness Celebrity Profile: Jack LaLanne

Jack LaLanne has been called the all-time Godfather of fitness.

As the inventor of fitness and a pioneer in the development of exercise equipment, Jack LaLanne has had an enormous influence on the fitness field. Jack LaLanne is one of the founders of fitness and a healthy living.

Before anybody else had even heard of fitness exercise and vitamins, Jack LaLanne is approaching 90 years of age but doesn't look it at all. Jack LaLanne was considered both a nut and way ahead of his time when he opened the first health club in America back in 1936 in Oakland, California.

When trying to convince people that lifting weights was good for them and would prolong their health, doctors were against LaLanne, saying it will give people a heart attack. Jack went from designing exercise programs to inventing exercise equipment like the leg-extension machine and the cable/pulley machine.

Jack LaLanne still works out for two hours every morning. He is also a firm believer in vitamins, and takes every vitamin from A-Z plus minerals and enzymes. Jack LaLanne begins every day with 50 grams of soy protein. LaLanne's diet is not completely vegetarian, but he doesn't eat red meat or white sugar. Rather, the majority of Jack's protein intake comes from egg whites, soy protein and occasionally fish.

Jack LaLanne doesn't eat any chicken or red meat. Instead, he sticks to natural grains such as brown rice and whole wheat. LaLanne also consumes at least ten fresh vegetables a day, and fish for dinner. Even in his 70's, Jack LaLanne never gets tired of spreading the message to the world about good nutrition and exercise. LaLanne still works out seven days a week, and spends an hour every morning lifting weights, followed by an hour exercise in the pool.

Jack LaLanne is maybe best known for his TV shows in the 1950's. The Jack LaLanne Show debuted in 1952, and was the first television show dedicated to fitness. Every year from 1954 to 1984, Jack performed staging birthday events such as swimming from the Golden Gate Bridge under water with a 140lb of equipment. LaLanne also towed 70 boats with 70 people 1,5 miles, handcuffed, across the Harbor in Long Beach in California for his 70th birthday. These are just a few of the incredible events that Jack LaLanne performed in his lifetime to prove that exercise and nutrition works when it comes to improving your health.

Jack and his wife, Elaine LaLanne, still travel the world, giving seminars and lectures about fitness, nutrition and the importance of exercise. Wherever they go, this charismatic and energetic couple spellbinds people. Jack LaLanne finally received full recognition for his endless work when on his 89 birthday when he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Jack LaLanne also invented the Power Juicer® machine and lots of yummy recipes to go along with it, which is still being advertised on countless infomercial's.

Jack LaLanne was a surprising pioneer. No one really saw the force of LaLanne coming. Little did we know that a former junk food junkie and sugar addict running around on the playground would one day change his life, and then ours. When LaLanne was 15, he attended a lecture by Paul Bragg, who is by all accounts a major pioneer in nutrition.

After the Bragg lecture, Jack LaLanne realized he was addicted to sugar, and vowed to change his disposition. Bragg guaranteed young Jack LaLanne that with a proper diet and exercise, Jack would feel much, much better.

Well, 70 years later, Jack LaLanne is living proof that cutting white sugars and junk food from ones diet can tremendously improve health and energy levels.

All in all, Jack LaLanne not only walked the walk, and talked the talk, he changed the world through health and fitness.

Older people believe Jack LaLanne has found the fountain of youth and when asked how old he is planning to get he says: “I can't die, it would spoil my image.”
