Did you know that the greater majority of commercial health and fitness
clubs require a long-term contractual agreement that mandates a checking
account for them to debit each month? Well, what if you want to change gyms?
What if you are moving? Heck, what if you'd rather not give them access
to your social security number and checking account in the first place?
Here's some health and fitness news you can use! First, pay for your membership
in cash. Gyms crave cash. You'll save money in the long run, and can try
to broker a better deal since you're paying up front in cold hard cash.
Not only will this free you up from the health club's crazy gym contracts,
but your personal information is secured! Having a healthy and fitness-like
budget is great! Of most importance, you can pay the health & fitness
club in three-month installments, so if you ever want to cancel or go elsewhere
(or need a break from your fitness routine), it's no sweat!
Free fitness center? Well, the owner of several apartment houses in Minneapolis could be a candidate for “Landlord of the Year”, if there were such a thing. Stephen Frenz, who owns several neighborhood apartment buildings in Minneapolis, gives all his tenants free access to a fitness center, something that is pretty much exclusive to high-end apartments in the area.
Frenz' apartments are not the high priced kind, topping out at $800.00 a month. Earlier this year, Frenz converted some empty office space into a fitness center, which includes cardio machines, training stations, and free weights. There's also computer access for residents, and a professional health and fitness director, all subsidized by Frenz.
Frenz has about 1,800 tenants, mostly in lower income brackets, and promises that adding the fitness center will not affect the rents. He owns 18 different apartment buildings in Stevens Square neighborhood, which have about 400 apartments. Most of the residents of the neighborhood are renters, many living in the brownstones there. Making the fitness center available to his tenants is part of what he calls a “A commitment to the neighborhood.”
His efforts don't go unappreciated. One tenant uses the center not only for working out, but also uses the computers there to job-hunt. Another woman used to drive to an area to run because of safety concerns about running in her neighborhood. Now she can work out as often as she wants. And another tenant, who was a college football player, uses the center to work out in the hopes of building his endurance to try out for the NFL. Before, he was financially unable to join a gym. Frenz says he sees the center as an investment in his tenants. “We have to put our best foot forward,” he says.
