If you have tried everything in your power when it comes to losing weight as far as dieting and exercising still with no results, there are other options available for you to explore nowadays. Some procedures involve risks but for a lot of people that are struggling with obesity, they are willing to take that risk.
The first weight loss procedure that became well known to the public was the liposuction method which is basically a big vacuum cleaner that goes in under your skin and sucks out fat deposits in the areas you want to slim down in like thighs, hips, stomach and buttocks.
However with this kind of procedure there is always a small risk that the removed fat cells will return later on in life since you are born with a certain amount of genetically made up fat cells. They might resurface in the same area, as they were removed from or somewhere else on our body. There are not enough studies or research done to say for sure what the long-term guarantee of surgical weight loss procedures may be.
While it might seem extreme to some people that somebody would actually go through surgery to lose weight it is far from extreme for anybody who carries 150lbs in extra weight. To get a little bit more perspective on what this people experience being 150+ lbs overweight, try to carry two suitcases around for a day with 150lbs in and see how you feel in the end of the day. When dealing with obesity it's not only a matter of feeling unable to function and live a normal life that make anybody turn to surgical measurements for weight loss, at point it's a matter of health and sometimes even life and death. It becomes a risk to your health, when you carry 100+ lbs weight around which your heart and body are not designed to support.
The good old diet and exercise method is working fine for a healthy person but if there is any medical condition involved that interferes with your body's metabolism in any way, medication or surgical weight loss might be the only way to a healthy life and a bright future. Taking these extreme measurements are still not for everybody and regardless if you think it would be so much easier to have excess weight surgically removed instead of losing weight through hard work and diet keep in mind all the risks involved.
The other methods you probably have heard of are gastric bypass surgery and stomach reduction, which is even more drastic then liposuction. Your stomach is actually being reduced and shrunken down to a smaller pouch and the food bypasses the lower stomach which reduces the amount of calories and nutrients that the body absorbs. The reduced size stomach pouch let you reach a level of fullness faster when you eat. This surgery has been subject to a lot of contradictions due to the restricted diet and side effects these patients have to live with for the rest of their lives. The most common side effect is vomiting that occur if the patient doesn't chew the food enough.
There are several different forms of gastric bypass surgery or malabsorptive surgery but they are all performed pretty much the same way. The only difference is how big of a stomach pouch that is being recreated. Even with drastic weight loss methods as these, the long term results are still depending on the patient's lifestyle and willingness to eat healthy and stay active. There is no guarantee that the weigh won't be regained at some point in life. Approximately 80% of the patients undergoing a surgical gastric bypass achieve some level of weight loss.
