Being Overweight & Weight Loss

Being overweight is not easy. America is now officially the fattest country on the planet, and experiencing an obesity-epidemic where weight loss, by any means necessary, has become the proverbial holy grail.

To tell somebody who is overweight that you understand how they feel is impossible unless you have actually been overweight yourself at some point. To imaging the emotional stress anybody obese goes through on a daily basis is not something you would even wish your worst enemy to have to experience. People stare at overweight individuals, people whisper and call them names behind their backs especially if we are discussing overweight teenagers. Growing up in today's society as an overweight person is not easy and it's not fun. You get picked at in school already and it doesn't necessarily get any easier as you get older and have to find a job. No matter how much we deny it is happening we all know that overweight people get discriminated against all the time on the job market.

Not only do they get picked last for a job because of their look but they also impose a risk and a possible expense for the employer who has to pay sick days when they start to develop conditions due to their weight. Trying to get health insurance when you are obese is a joke.

When you need to go on a physical checkup more often due to your weight problems you are going to cost the insurance companies more money then they can make of you. You are basically not healthy enough to get health insurance even though you are the one that really needs to be insured in case you develop diabetes or high blood pressure or something because of your weight. If you were skinny and fit you would get insured right away without any problems at all.

Being overweight is very emotionally draining for a person since obese people can't take all the things for granted that you as a average weight person can do like book yourself a plain ticket or sit down sharing a seat with somebody at the bus or something so simple as finding clothes that fit them.

These are just little things that you as a non-overweight person probably don't pay much attention to in your daily life but for anybody obese these simple tasks become obstacles to overcome every day.

A lot of people are overweight simply because they do not know better. The lack of knowledge on what to eat and how to take care of their health and their bodies turns into a medical condition like obesity.

Sometimes obesity is caused by family history or a genetic medical condition but there are just as many cases of obesity that is just lack of exercise and overeating.

In this case knowledge is power to be healthy and prolong your life and your decrease the risk of conditions linked to obesity. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, low energy, depression, kidney trouble and complications during pregnancy are one a few of the risks that face anybody who is overweight or obese.

Still facing all these life threatening diseases, it can be so hard to lose the weight that the person gives up and accepts the fact that he or she is going to live his or her life as an obese overweight individual. If they decide to accept that fact then the mental aspect sets in to make it even worse, the feeling of being a loser and even failing at successfully losing the weight. Then the low self esteem follows and the comfort eating and the cycle is completed again.

Maybe you get a better picture of how it is to live your life being overweight and next time you see somebody obese, try to see the person instead of the weight.
